Pumping station-pumping of waste water

The pumping station is made up of one or more chambers. The basic construction is made up of one chamber with pumps. Additional chambers serve as retention pools, cleaning manholes or overburden repositories. Waste waters flow through the drainage sewer pipe (there may be several of these) into the bottom part of the manhole called the pumping chamber. Damage or clogging of the pumps and the pressure duct may be prevented by installing catchment baskets at the entry point of the inflow pipes. When the level in the pumping chamber reaches a certain height, the pump is turned on. The pumps are turned on and off by the level switches or appropriate sensors. The size of the pumping chamber and level for the activation of the pump are calculated with respect to the amount of inflow, the capacity of the pump and the number of activations of the pump within the period of one hour. There are always two pumps in a pumping station so that in the event of a breakdown of one pump, a satisfactory operation of the pumping station is still ensured. The pressure duct is fitted with a non-return valve that prevents the return of water from the pressure pipeline to the pumping station. The stop valve on the pressure pipeline is activated in the event of a breakdown of the pumps. A landing is installed for the cleaning and maintenance of the pumping station which is reached by climbing down the installed ladder.
