Motorway oil separator

In the draining of motorways, water runs into the oil separator through the overburden repository and the retention pool. After heavy downpours, access water is re-directed into the overburden repository. Retention pool retains the first wave of contaminated water and slowly guides it into the oil separator. The separated oil is collected on the surface while the treated water runs off into the natural environment through a valve. In cases of more extensive oil spillages, the safety valve closes off the run-off so that the oil does not contaminate the environment.
